Mindful Yoga for Trauma Training • 15-Hour Support Precedes Action Program
The principle of support preceding action states that if we want to feel connected and integrated in our movement, we need to know where our support is coming from before we engage in any action. For example: Using this concept, we learn to recognize the earth firmly beneath us in order to allow ourselves to receive its support. Knowing we have the support we need before we make any move forward, take our next step in life, or even simply move into a yoga posture is essential. In other words…
SUPPORT PRECEDES EVERYTHING!
Yoga practices are a powerful complement to professional treatment for Post Traumatic Stress. A mindful, embodied yoga practice can provide relief from symptoms and develop the supportive skills that veterans need in their everyday lives. Yoga does not cure Post Traumatic Stress, but it has proven to aid in a veteran’s healing journey.
Mindful Yoga Therapy is an Embodyoga® based, empirically informed, clinically tested program comprised of five practices: Pranayama (breathing), Asana (postures connected with breath), Yoga Nidra, Meditation, and Gratitude. Each practice is a tool veterans can use to cope with Post Traumatic Stress, and together, they form a comprehensive system—a toolbox—that will carry veterans into a life of strength and resilience.
The healing effects of these ancient yogic practices have begun to receive recognition from modern scientists. Research has discovered and validated what the yogis have known for centuries: yoga is one of the most effective ways to encourage and stimulate the healing process.
Clinical trials have demonstrated that even the best yoga teachers need to acquire a specific set of skills and considerations to work in trauma recovery programs. To that end, Mindful Yoga for Trauma Training for Yoga Teachers has been fully supported by the Give Back Yoga Foundation with the goal of creating the most qualified and supportive team possible.
Support for yourself
Self-care is important when working in the world with others. Learning to manage the demands in our own lives is key to being able to support others.
This 15-hour training program is for everyone!
The Mindful Yoga Therapy Support Precedes Action Program covers:
In this program, we provide specific postures and techniques to help students find a connection to earth with their feet and hands. The grounding connection to earth lets us know that we have the support we need to move forward safely and with stability. This earthy, grounded feeling provides a calm presence, steadiness, and sense of ease. With continued practice, we may find new sensations of having support under us in many different areas of their bodies. They may begin to spontaneously initiate movement from those supports. When we know where their support is coming from, we find more comfort. Finding this connection and relationship with earth may help us begin to find a renewed relationship with our self as well. Finding and nurturing this relationship with the self, and feeling fully supported by the earth, allows us to begin to explore relationships with others.
Yoga offers us choice in our actions. Each of us takes our own time in coming into a deeper relationship with earth, with our self, and with others. There is no timetable for this, except your own comfort level.
This program will consist of Breath, Movement, Meditation, Yoga Nidra and the practice of Gratitude.
You will learn how to take this home with you and to use these practices to maintain the support that is needed in all of our lives, to manage stress, anxiety and to live fuller more vibrant lives.
